SCAN offers a routine acupuncture, chiropractic and/or therapeutic massage benefit through American Specialty Health (ASH)* for most plans.
This is a self-referred benefit, which means you don’t need a doctor’s referral to receive these services. Just schedule your appointment, show your SCAN member ID card and receive an exam. Be sure to choose an ASH provider that contracts with SCAN.
During your first appointment, the ASH provider will talk with you and do an exam to find out what's wrong. If you need more than one appointment, the ASH provider will submit a treatment plan to ASH. Once approved, you can schedule additional appointments and begin your treatment.

How a Self-Referral Benefit Works
For your medical care, you will see your primary care doctor first whenever you think you may need specialty care (some SCAN plans vary). Many of the supplemental benefits SCAN offers allow you to self-refer, meaning you don’t need a referral from your primary care doctor first.
